Announcing the 3rd Edition of IEEE ComSoc’s "A Brief History of Communications"
(Jan 20, 2026) I am proud to announce the publication of the third edition of A Brief History of Communications, commissioned by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) to mark its 70th anniversary. As the Executive Editor for this edition, I had the privilege of helping to document a decade of unprecedented technological change. Since the previous edition in 2012, the industry has shifted from the foundational deployment of 5G and massive MIMO to the sophisticated frontiers of 6G development—including reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, integrated sensing, and semantic communication.
Beyond the technical evolution, this edition addresses a vital historical gap with a new chapter dedicated to "Women’s Contribution to Advances in Communications." It was an honour to help bring these long-overdue narratives to the forefront of the Society's official history.
This project reflects the core of my work: distilling the most complex engineering breakthroughs into clear, historically significant narratives that define where our industry has been and where it is going next.
Recent articles
Here is a recent selection of articles I have written for my clients, Nokia and BMO. They have been published under the byline of an executive or subject matter expert (SME) at each company. We develop or they provide me with an abstract that the publication has expressed interest in publishing, I meet with the author and other SMEs, do independent research on the publication and its typical audience, and write the piece with final input from the author and Nokia.
